IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, a policy think tank, has told political party communicators to focus on how to deliver on their campaign promises as political parties rather than being concerned about IMANI’s method of assessment.

The comments follow reactions from political actors on a report presented by IMANI Africa; giving a sector-by-sector assessment of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Administration’s performance so far from 2017 to 2020.

Some political party communicators have reacted questioning the basis and method of assessment employed by the policy think tank that scored President Akufo Addo’s government 56.77% for implementing 510 manifesto promises made by the party in 2016.

But speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, Research Consultant at IMANI Africa, Dennis Asare, said instead of focusing on the method of assessment used by IMANI Africa, the political party communicators should rather be concerned about how they can deliver on their campaign promises to better the lives of Ghanaians.

Highlighting on what went into their assessment, he pointed out that they touched on promises in the areas of governance, economy, health, infrastructure, education, and social services amongst others.

“162 promises were made by the NPP in their 2016 manifesto that was related to the economy and under that, the NPP was able to attain 57.62 of the promises made. The NPP promised that they were going to abolish the 1 percent levy in their first term. They also abolished the 17.5 VAT on selected imported medicines and NHIL on financial services.” He told show host Samuel Mbura.

Despite gives the Nana Addo led government a rating of fair satisfactory in implementing its 2016 manifesto promises, Mr. Asare who was the focal person during the presentation of the final score card last Wednesday, urged political parties to always consider policies that when implemented could benefit the citizenry.
