UER: KNM AGRIC DIRECTOR CALLS ON GOV’T TO ABSORB NABCO PERSONNEL FULL TIME

The Kassena Nankana Municipal Director of Agriculture in the Upper East Region, Beni Joseph Waliea, has called on government to absorb personnel of the Nation Builders Corp (NABCO) working at his outfit into permanent employment.

Speaking at the District level celebration of this year’s National Farmers’ Day under the theme “Agribusiness Development under Covid-19; Challenges and Opportunities.” held at Bonia, a community in Kassena Nankana Municipality, Mr. Waliea noted that the issue of staffing was a major challenge confronting his department particularly in the area of Technical Field Staff to help in field extension delivery and veterinary services.

“There are some challenges facing the department notably; inadequate technical field staff for extension and veterinary, we appreciate the efforts by Government for NABCO personnel to augment our extension delivery. Most of them are very hard working in their respective operational areas, my humble appeal to the Government to consider absorbing them fully in to the department”

Touching also on the lack of motor bikes for effective field extension service delivery, he appealed to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the area, Williams Aduum, to help his outfit in negotiating to benefit from the next batch of motor bikes to be delivered under the Modernization of Agriculture in Ghana (MAG) programme.

On his part, the MCE for the area, Williams Aduum, observed that the municipality is bless with good arable land for all year round farming.

He therefore admonished the youth to see agriculture as a serious business, and take advantage of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government’s agricultural flagship policies.

As part of the district level celebration of the 36th National Best Farmers’ Day, over 20 Farmers in the Kassena Nankana Municipality received various awards for their hard work; with the Municipal Best Farmer, Weyire Wedia, receiving a tricycle popularly known as “motor king”, a pair of wellington boot and a certificate.
