Residents of Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East region, on Friday, mourned the death of Former Ghanaian President, Jerry John Rawlings, who died on Thursday, November 12, 2020, after a short illness. Following his demise there has been a general mood of mourning in the Upper East region and Ghana as a whole. | |
In separate interactions with A1 News, the residents described his death as untimely, terming the late Former President as “A warrior who lived a legendary life, full of legacy.” particularly emphasizing on his role in connecting the entire northern sector of Ghana to electricity. They noted that the late Jerry John Rawlings was not only an excellent statesman but also a selfless leader who was much concerned in the general wellbeing of Ghanaians during his lifetime. |
Gabriel Agangreyamga, a native of Soe, a suburb of Bolgatanga swore that he would have given his life for the late ruler because according to him, “Rawlings was a man full of action and was determined to bring progress to Ghana.”
Monica Amamu, a food vendor from Sandema in the Builsa North District but resident in Bolgatanga, said “It [the death of Mr. Rawlings] came to me as a complete shock. I was selling my food when I heard some of my customers saying that Rawlings had died. I didn’t know what to do or say at that time. I was in a complete state of shock.”
According to Fatawu Amoah, Owner of Sheriga Photos in Bolgatanga, “The death of Rawlings poses a huge threat to the NDC party since Rawlings was the founder of NDC. I didn’t know what to do after I heard the news at about 12:00pm. I least expected he would die at that age; after all his mother lived for over a 100 years.”
