Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has refuted claims that she is in bed with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The current EC, upon assumption of office has come under “attack” from the opposition community particularly with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly alleging that she is in bed with NPP; and that the commission could rig the upcoming  election to favor them.

But speaking today at a training workshop in Accra, Mrs. Mensa debunked the allegations of favoritism made against her and her outfit; saying if those claims of being in bed with the ruling party were true, she “would have had two children by now.” because according to her, “it’s been two years” since she assumed office as chairperson of the electoral commission.

She emphasized that the commission had put in place effective systems to ensure the upcoming election is conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

She went on to explain that the commission had involved its primary stakeholders in every activity it had so far undertaken to ensure transparency; reaffirming that there is no way the commission could rig the election for a preferred political party.

According to her, the systems and processes that have been employed will ensure that even if one was related to the president and wishes to favor him, it would not be possible to do so.

“We have tried our best to open up everything. Therefore, even if the president was your uncle or your father, there is absolutely nothing you can do for him” if the people reject him at the polls.

To further refute her alleged allegiance to President Akufo Addo and the NPP, She added that “Since our appointment as chair and deputies, I have met the president on two occasions only; and those have been official and have been attended by all the commission members.”
