Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 general election, John Dramani Mahama, is expected to visit the Upper East Region on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
According to Abdallah Salifu, a member of NDC’s Upper East Regional Communication Team, the flagbearer is on a mission to thank the people of the region for what he said was an overwhelming endorsement of the party in the just ended general elections.
Speaking on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Program on Monday, Mr. Salifu indicated that the results of NDC in the Upper East Region in this year’s polls are among the best in terms of performance; and therefore there is the need for the party to express gratitude to the people of the region for their support.
The ‘thank you’ visit to the Upper East by Mr. Mahama follows a contentious polls where supporters of both Mr. Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) claimed their candidates were leading based on their party’s tallies; but the election results was subsequently declared for Nana Akufo-Addo with 51.59 percent of the votes.
The NDC, after the declaration by the Electoral Commission has rejected the presidential and parliamentary results; indicating that it will take legitimate steps to reverse the results as declared by the commission.
It is not clear the moves Mr. Mahama and his party intend to employ to fight their course; but embarking on a thank-you-tour amidst the developing situation leaves most Ghanaians in suspense.
