A 2-year-old has tested positive for corona virus in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.

This was disclosed by the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Director, Dr. Edmond Mohammed Nyanwura, in an interview on A1 Radio.

He said the case of the toddler adds up to make 35 new confirmed cases of corona virus in the municipality from the 1st to 16th of December, 2020.

According to him, 3 people have recovered from the virus and have been discharged while the remaining 32 are undergoing treatment at the Upper East treatment centre.

On statistics of the confirmed cases, Dr. Nyanwura indicated that the highest percentage of infected persons fall between the ages of 25 and 35.

He said health authorities are worried about the level of compliance in the region, because according to him, non-compliance of residents in adhering to the COVID-19 safety and preventive protocols is one of the causes for increasing cases in the region.

“When you go out to town you will realize that people are not following the protocols as have been outlined. Many people don’t use the face masks; and even the veronica buckets that you see around may not contain water in them.” He lamented.

Warning that the cases could rise higher if there is no change in attitude, Dr. Nyanwura wants people to be aware corona virus is real and its impact are devastating.

The increase in active figures in the region will be a worry to many residents as Christmas approaches with its associated festivities that bring large numbers of people together.
