The President of Union of May Borns (UMABO), William Nlanjerbor Jalulah has disclosed that the union will celebrate its 10th anniversary in May 2021.

Formed in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana in May 2011, UMABO seeks to unite all persons born in the month of May.

Article 3 of UMABO’s constitution stipulates that membership of the union shall be strictly May Borns but, it however gives room for affiliate membership.

It states, “Members of UMABO shall be strictly May Borns (those born from 1st to 31st May). However, UMABO may accept affiliate individuals/groups.”

In an interview with A1Radioonline.com, Mr Jalulah said members of union in their last general meeting on December 13, 2020, outlined a number of activities to be undertaken as part of the union’s 10th anniversary in 2021.

He said the activities include official launch of the anniversary, blood donation at different hospitals in the country, clean up exercises, membership drive and visitations to orphanages. He added that the celebration of the anniversary will start in May 2021 and end in May 2022.

Stressing on membership drive, Mr Jalulah said the leadership intends to establish regional and zonal chapters of the union in other parts of the country.

He said, “UMABO Kumasi is very active with a membership of about 20, and we intend to establish more branches across the country. It is a process that involves a lot of time, resources and commitment but with the kind of leadership we have as a union, I am very sure we shall succeed in extending our unique union to other parts of the country and beyond. Some of our members are outside Ghana and we have started encouraging them to form branches wherever they are while Bolgatanga remains the headquarters.”

The President outlined some humanitarian services the union has provided over the years. They include annual blood donation and donation of medical essentials to health facilities in the Upper East Region.

In its bid to support the fight against the spread of Covid-19, UMABO in May this year donated 60 gallons of liquid soap, bottles of hand sanitiser and bundles of tissue papers to three health facilities in Bolgatanga. The facilities included Bolgatanga Health Center, Coronation Health Center and Amiah Hospital.

Aside its humanitarian gestures, UMABO also holds annual birthday party for all members on May 31, which also marks the end of the union’s annual calendar of activities. He this day is termed as ‘Our Day’ for members. Members also receive support in an event of bereavement, weddings, outdooring among others.

Mr Jalulah made a passionate appeal to all May borns who have not joined UMABO to do so because there is so much they can do to support themselves as members and the needy in society.
