The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region has announced it will on Wednesday, December 23, take to the streets in Bolgatanga in protest of the 2020 general election results.

The party claimed the Electoral Commission (EC) has “cooked” the figures of the just ended polls in favor of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Immediately the flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, addressed party sympathizers nationwide rejecting the 2020 election results, there have been demonstrations by supporters of the party protesting against the decision of the EC.

Despite indicating the plans of the party to go to court to seek redress on the outcome of the elections, NDC’s Upper East Regional Communication Team Member, Abdallah Issah, announced that “We are also going to have our demonstration. Come this Wednesday, supporters of NDC in the Upper East Region would be staging a peaceful demonstration like other regions have done.”

Mr. Issah noted his party had duly notified the police in Bolgatanga about its planned demonstration but was not certain if the police has granted clearance for the aggrieved supporters to proceed with their protest.

“Whichever way it is, we are law abiding. Don’t let us get things wrong; normally, you want police protection because you don’t want to get into problems with another group. If they {the police personnel} are there and there is an opposing group, they will be able to deal with the situation. But if you’re all alone roaming on the streets doing your demonstrations, what do you need police for?” He asked Samuel Mbura on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East program.

He further condemned what he described as the unprofessional conduct of police officers who reportedly meted out brutalities to NDC protesters in some parts of the country.
