The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage, has hit hard at members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who have voted against the party’s presidential candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and its parliamentary candidates in the just ended general elections.
The 2020 general elections saw some bigwigs of the party losing their seats abysmally to the main National Democratic Congress (NDC) with President Akufo-Addo’s votes dwindled as compared with the votes he obtained in the 2016 elections.
Among notable personalities of the NPP who lost their seats or failed to be elected as Members of Parliament include the NPP parliamentary candidate for Navrongo Central constituency, Tangoba Abayage.
Madam Tangoba who obtained 15, 821 votes, was beaten by the National Democratic Congress’, Sampson Tamgombu Chiragia who secured 26, 947 votes in the just ended polls.
A defeat, some supporters in the Navrongo Central constituency who described it as unprecedented, have called for the resignation of the Upper East regional minister.
It could be recalled that, barely a week after her defeat, Madam Tangoba told Accra based radio station, Joy FM that she failed to win the seat for the NPP because the outgoing MP for Navrongo Central, Joseph Akofi Adda who doubles the Aviation Minister, campaigned against her candidature.
Madam Tangoba during the said interview bemoaned that, even though she wept and begged Mr. Adda to forgive her for winning the primaries against him, the outgoing MP did not only ditch her, he stabbed her in the back.
“I have concrete evidence that he [Kofi Adda] sponsored other candidates against me. I have a video evidence to that. I’m not just talking from the blues. I have evidence that he campaigned vigorously against my candidature. He supported the NDC and PPP candidates and I have evidence”, she alleged.
Before the dust on the 2020 elections settles, Madam Tangoba recently posted on her Facebook wall stating that she is a patriotic member of the NPP and nothing can trigger her to vote against the elephant party even at the peril of her life.
The defeated Member of Parliament aspirant for the Navrongo central constituency believes that only unpatriotic members of the party will ever vote against the NPP.
Although there is no indication that her post refers to Kofi Adda whom she claimed that he campaigned against her candidature, figures seems to be pointing at the outgoing MP and his teaming supporters.
