Balungu chief calls for peace to boost development

The Chief of Tongo- Balungu in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, Naba Mwaribilsonga Nietinga Putesone Maaletinga, has called on members of his community and Ghanaians in general to be united to facilitate development.

Speaking at his out-dooring ceremony as Chief of Balungu after he was enskinned two years ago, Naba Maaletinga called for peaceful coexistence in the community saying; Balungu can only achieve the needed developmental projects if peace is allowed to reign.

Touching on the just ended general elections, he admonished all politicians and the general public to let peace prevail in the country because according to him, without peace no community in Ghana can table it developmental agenda.

Naba Maaletinga’s speech was read on his behalf by a former Assembly Member for the Balungu Electoral Area, Ken Kazar Mahama.

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Talensi, Dr. Christopher Boatbil, who spoke on behalf of the Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayaga, commended the chief and the youth of Balungu for their efforts in canvassing for peace and unity in the area.

According to him, many countries across the world use festivals and other culture activities to propel their developmental agenda; and urged the gathering to emulate same.

He added that no country or group of persons can make progress in life if they do not know where they are coming from and what they are made of; and what unites them as a people.

The out- dooring ceremony under the theme “Unity and peace, a necessity for a prosperous Balungu.” was graced by notable dignitaries including the immediate past President of the Upper East Regional Houses of Chiefs, Naba Sigri Bewong; a representative of the overlord of the Talensi Traditional Area and chiefs from the Talensi Traditional Council among other invited guests.
