President Akufo-Addo has lauded the move by flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to challenge the outcome of the December 7, 2020, general election in court; saying it is good for Ghana.

Following the Electoral Commission’s declaration of the incumbent President Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as winner of the election, Mr. Mahama raised concerns over the conduct of the polls; thereby rejecting the election results.

He therefore, on December 30, 2020 filed a petition at the Supreme Court challenging the outcome of the presidential elections.

But delivering the last state of the Nations Address to end his first tenure in office, President Akufo-Addo said “I recognize my main opponent in the election has gone to the Supreme Court to seek their intervention over his concerns on the outcome of the polls.

“It is good for the nation that in the end, he chose the legal path instead of the pockets of violence that attended the immediate aftermath of the elections,”

The president however maintained that the just ended election which led to his re-election was free and fair contrary to claims by his opponents.
