The much-awaited traditional music festival was finally climaxed on January 7, at the Racla Pub in Bolgatanga. Last year’s edition at the May Way Pub was equally massive.

The event dubbed “New Year New Tradition” is an annual musical event organized by traditional music legend, Stevo Atambire, to usher in the year 2021.

Last year saw artists like Rockcity, Ras worms and many others from the Upper East Region and some foreign artists performing.

This year’s edition featured Wanlove the Kubolor, Agorvey, Yaw Lucas, Jahwise, Frank Kisi (one of the best drummers in Ghana today), Aminu (Ghanaian international Dondo drummer), Villi from Nigeria and Ras worms.

King Kobby and his Gongii group form Zuarungu Moshie and Soorebia the “Gaafara Hit Maker also graced this year’s music festival.

After many electrifying performances on the night, the “Bemboe” hitmaker and award winning Frafra rapper, Soorebia, joined Stevo Atambire on stage and rapped prolifically along traditional and contemporal rhythms from a live band that had earlier thrilled the audience.

Soorebia’s performance will go down memory lane as one that shocked many and kept patrons dancing throughout the performance and kept asking for more even after he had left the stage.

For many of the patrons, it was the first time they had seen Soorebia rapping along traditional rhythm from Kologo and other local instruments. Their reactions suggested a complete acceptance of the new level Soorebia is taking his craft to.

This year’s event also had its bad side, and the organizers are expected to work on the challenges, if they intend to make it the best event every year.

“New Year New Tradition” Music Festival is becoming a platform for local artistes seeking to perform alongside bigger and international artistes on the same platform. The organizers must work to improve on the quality of the event to attract a bigger crowd in future.
