The Interim Vice-Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, says the university will ensure strict compliance with all Covid-19 protocols, as the school starts serious academic work.

He gave the assurance in an interview at Sumbrungu where the university is located in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region.

The university, like all other universities, has made some provision for handwashing everywhere on campus, temperature checking, and urged students and staff to wear face masks in the lecture halls and other areas of campus.

Per the latest Convid-19 reports, the Bolgatanga Municipality has over 40 positive cases from January 1 to January 14, and the area has been marked a Covid-19 epic area in the Upper East Region. It is therefore not surprising that the university authority has promised to tighten the safety belt.

The Bolgatanga Technical University has a task force team with a clear mandate to prevent Covid-19.

“Management of this university will not compromise on its efforts at ensuring that students of the school adhere strictly to all the Covid-19 safety protocols. The task force would ensure Covid-19 protocols are adhered to by all.” Prof Alnaa assured the public.

The Covid-19 taskforce is expected to ensure that the sitting arrangements in the various lecture halls are well spaced in line with the Covid-19 safety measures announced by the government and the World Health Organization.

The task force will also ensure that no student or staff walks around campus without a face mask.

Meanwhile, the Bolgatanga Technical University is ready to welcome 1,000 new students to read various courses the school offers.

As part of measures to welcome these new students and ensure their safety on campus, Zoomlion Ghana Limited has disinfected various lecture halls, officers, hostels, and all other parts of the university compound.

The university has over 1000 continuing students who are already on campus and complying with directives of the university’s Covid-19 taskforce team.

The Bolgatanga Technical University is among the recent polytechnics that were converted to technical universities.

According to the Interim Vice-Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Alnaa, the new status has contributed to an increment in enrolment, adding that the university will now make very good use of all the spaces that were unoccupied due to the previous low enrollment.
