Assembly Member for Soe Electoral Area in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region, Lambert Akunzebe, has stated that 5 out of 9 schools in his electoral area have not been fumigated ahead of the re-opening of schools.

Mr. Akunzebe’s statement confirms claims made on A1 Radio on Tuesday, by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communicator, Abdallah Salifu, suggesting that there were some basic schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality that have not been fumigated ahead of the resumption of schools.

According to the NDC Communicator,  “Some of the schools have not been fumigated. We live in areas where we have schools around us. They have not come to fumigate them. It is not true that every school block in this municipality has been fumigated. Yes, I’m telling you that not all schools were fumigated before schools resumed.”

When contacted by A1 Radio on Wednesday morning, Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Zachariah Abdulai debunked the claims that some schools had not been fumigated before re-opening.

He said “All schools have been fumigated. They were fumigated last 2 weeks and last week before this Monday {when schools re-opened}.”

But confirming the situation in a separate interview on A1 Radio, Assembly Member for Soe, Mr. Akunzebe said his checks revealed that 5 out of 9 schools in his electoral area had not been fumigated as at the time he was granting this interview.

To buttress his claim; he went on to list all the schools in his electoral area that had not been fumigated; and indicated he was taking steps to follow up on the institutions responsible for the fumigation exercise to cover them as soon as possible.
