Amidst the recent surge in Covid-19 cases in the country, the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Director, Edmund Mohammed Nyanwura, has appealed to Ghanaians particularly residents of Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region, to avoid funerals and other social gatherings to reduce the spread of the virus.

In an interview with A1 Radio on Monday, Mr. Nyanwura acknowledged that social gatherings; especially funerals are certain to take place at this time but noted if care is not taken, such activities could serve as breeding grounds for the spread of Coronavirus.

Dr. Edmund Nyanwura

He said “At this time, it is necessary that we avoid social gatherings. It is necessary that we avoid funerals because we know this is the season many of us would like to do funerals. But as it is now, it is very necessary to avoid that.”

According to him, though, there have been reported cases of the new variant of Covid-19, “But in all, we’re talking about the same Coronavirus. It takes the same preventive protocols that have been given to us to stay safe from the new wave. We all know them; social distancing, hand washing, wearing of face masks and so on.”

Mr. Nyanwura further stated that the goal of winning the fight against the pandemic can only be achieved if the general public takes the responsibility of adhering strictly to all the Covid-19 safety protocols.
