Parliament begins vetting of ministerial nominees on Feb 10

Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has hinted that the Appointments Committee of Parliament has set Wednesday February 10, 2021, to begin vetting the ministerial nominees of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He said on Friday January 29 that the committee will prioritize the appearance of the health minister as a result of the covid-19 pandemic.

“The Appointments Committee has met, and we are requesting for public memoranda in respect of all the president’s nominees for all the ministerial positions.

“We are expected to commence vetting on the 10th of February. Priority will be given to some ministers, in particular Health because of the COVID situation in the country, and probably he will be the first minister to be considered by our committee followed by those other ministers of National Security and Finance.

“Our clerk is working to get the publication to all the media houses,” he said.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 21, 2021, submitted to Parliament for prior approval, through the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, the names of the 46 persons for appointment as Ministers in his new Government.

The list includes 30 persons for approval at the central government level and 16 for regional ministerial portfolios.
