President Akufo-Addo has reminded the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the National Sports Authority to ensure strict compliance with the agreed 25 percent capacity rule at all stadia during football matches.
The President has also asked the GFA to ensure that the clubs sensitize spectators at their venues to respect the social distancing rule and wear face masks throughout their stay at the venues.
President Akufo-Addo made this call during the 23rd update on the measures taken against Covid-19 on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Meanwhile, the founder and coach of the Sumbrungu Ladies Football Club in the Bolgatanga, Iddrisu Danaa Mubarik says the president’s reminder was timely, considering the fact that many Ghanaians for some time have thrown caution to the wind.
In an interview with a1radioonline.com, the Sumbrungu Ladies coach said the 25 percent attendance cannot be measured in the lower divisions and the women football league, because the clubs cannot tell the exact capacity of where they play their matches. However, they have a responsibility to sensitize people who come to watch their matches.
“I have always advised my players to wear their face masks always, stay away from crowded areas and follow all the Covid-19 protocols. I have procured the thermometer gun and Veronica buckets for use during our training sessions. This is what we can do at the lower level. It is the continuous reminders and education and also adherence to the rules by everybody that can do the job.”
He suggested that at every match, the home teams should select volunteers from the spectators to go round to ensure that people watching the match obey the social distance rule and also wear their face masks.
