President Akufo-Addo names 11 Council of State members

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in line with Article 89(2) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana, has appointed some 11 persons to serve as members of the Council of State.

The eleven persons who will be occupying the non-elected positions at the Council of State, are Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Juabenhene, Archbishop Justice Ofei Akrofi, Sam Okudzeto, Stanley Blankson, Prof. Ato Essuman, Alhaji Aminu Amadu, Dr. Margaret Amoakohene, Georgina Kusi, Alberta Cudjoe, Kuoro Richard Babini Kanton VI, and Alhaji Sule Yiremiah.

The President in consultation with Parliament has also appointed, in accordance with Article 89(2)(a)(i)(ii) and (iii), Georgina Theodora Wood, a former Chief Justice, Lt. Gen. J.B. Danquah, a former Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces, and Nana Owusu Nsiah, a former Inspector General of Police, to also serve as members of the Council of State.

The President of the National House of Chiefs, Ogyeahohoo Yaw Gyebi II, is an ex-officio member of the Council, in furtherance of Article 89(2)(b).

The composition of the Council of State will be completed after the election of regional representatives of the 16 regions of Ghana to also serve as Council of State members.

Friday, February 12, 2021, has been scheduled for the election of all regional representatives in accordance with Article 89(2)(c).
