Petrol tanker blasts; killing 2 and injuring 1 in Wa

A tanker containing petrol has exploded as it was being welded; killing 2 persons and injuring one other in Wa in the Upper West Region.

According to a JoyNews report monitored by A1Radioonline.com, the incident occured at the Wa Magazine when the deceased, a 20-year-old Issahaku and 24-year-old Amidu were welding leakages on the tanker.

The injured person was said to be a passing-by when the explosion occurred; causing him to sustain burns on his left arm.

An Eye witness said workers in their shops at the area rushed to the scene upon hearing the blast only to discover that one of the victims had died while the other was stuck in the tanker alive.

But the workers could not touch the tanker to help rescue him due to the heat.

Giving further account of the incident, another eye witness said they eventually forced themselves through the hot tanker together with personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service to rescue the victim who was badly injured.

He unfortunately died after he was sent to the Wa Municipal Hospital for treatment. The eyewitness added.

According to the JoyNews report, workers at the Wa Magazine called on government to put up fire stations, ambulance services and a clinic at the industrial site to help give emergency services to victims of the numerous accidents that occur there.
