Man loses wife, 3 children in Buipe-Tamale accident

A man has lost 4 members of his family, comprising his wife and 3 of his young children in the reported head-on collision that occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, February 3, 2021, involving two buses on the Buipe-Tamale highway.

The family members were among over 18 people who perished in the crash when vehicles were travelling from Kumasi to Zebila and from Garu to Kumasi respectively.

Narrating the story in an interview with A1 Radio, Branch Chairman of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) in Garu, Gadafi Mohammed, claiming family relationship with the now widow said “One of my uncles was involved; his wife and 3 of his children have died. My uncle’s wife and 3 children are all dead. Is it fair?”

The widow, according to Mr. Mohammed survived but got one of his arms chopped-off as a result of the crush.

He added that the Garu District Assembly assisted with a vehicle to carry some branch officials of the GPRTU to the accident scene to get first hand information of the unfortunate incident.

A statement from the Savanna Regional Police Command said the Yutong buses with registration numbers GT 3345-16 and AC 1699-20 were carrying about 45 persons each at the time of the accident.

The statement further added that the deceased persons had been conveyed to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary in Tamale for preservation awaiting identification and autopsy; while efforts were being made to tow the accident vehicles to the police station.
