Member of Parliament of the Builsa-South Constituency, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak believes that it will be better to shut down the parliament of Ghana considering the number of Members of Parliament who have tested positive for Covid-19 and may still be attending to parliamentary works in the chamber.
Available information from parliaments says a total of 15 Members of Parliament and 56 staff of parliament have tested positive for Covid-19.
As a result, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has directed that the number of Members of Parliament in the chamber of parliament should be reduced and the others work from outside the chamber.
Dr. Clement Apaak’s problem with the current arrangement is that members of parliament do not know the identity of MPs who have tested positive for Covid-19 and still enter parliament to work.
There are other individuals and organizations who have called for the closure of parliament and a possible exposure of affected MPs to their colleagues and made to isolate themselves.
The Builsa South MP tweeted: “15 MPs and 56 staff of parliament have tested positive for COVID. Best option; shut down parliament. We don’t know the identities of those positive, who still attended parliament. Shut down parliament, all MPs and staff, self-isolate. Get us tested after 14 days, then we resume if negative.”
