Former Upper East Regional Minister under the else while, John Mahama administration, Professor Avea Nsoh has condemned the apology made by the Minority Chief Whip in the Parliament of Ghana, Muntaka Mubarak, and asked the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to as well let go of the election petition if his apology is something to go by.

According to the Professor, the linguistic context of the MP’s apology does not take away the fact that there was an act of bribery in Parliament regarding the Speakership election, hence he owes the NDC and Ghanaians explanations for his U-turn.

Muntaka Mubarak who is also a Member of Parliament for Asawase Constituency in the Ashanti Region, once accused a Supreme Court Judge of attempted bribing an NDC female MP on the Speakership election for the 8th Parliament has stated apology. The MP in a statement issued February 6 noted that he has had broad consultations and reflections and has decided to allow “sleeping dogs lie”.

But reacting to his apology on A1 Radio Prof. Avea noted that the MP apology does not correspond well to the NDC and owes Ghanaians explanations.

“His expression alone let sleeping dogs lie tells that what he is saying is that he is just covering up things. He doesn’t want to bring something that will disturb the Supreme Court and the elements appear to be silent. Now, if his apology is something to go by then let us forgets about the election petition.”

He added that should the MP’s apology be granted then, there will be a notion of mistrust amongst him and his colleagues at the vetting committee in the coming days.

“Now that there seems to be a hang Parliament; what happens? It means that the appointment committee is just going to allow, reflect and consider the appointed ministers to go through the vetting easily without proper introspection on them.”
