The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) of Ghana, James Oppong-Boanuh, has promised to provide police escorts for members of the Ghana National Tomato Traders and Transporters Association, to protect them against armed robbery attacks on the Kumasi-Bolgatanga-Burkina-Faso highway.

This follows a petition presented to the IGP by the Tomato Importers and Traders Association of Ghana on the recurrent armed robbery attacks on its members.

In recent times there has been news of attacks on traders leading to some of them losing their lives, others getting maimed and many losing their money.

As of Saturday 13 February, vehicles of traders were seen traveling the Bolgatanga Municipality in a queue and being escorted by two police vehicles to Burkina Faso.

It is expected that this arrangement will continue for a long time and be extended to other routes where armed robbers have been attacking passengers and killing community members.
