Amaliba explains reason for Mahama’s consistent applications for reviews in election petition

Director of Legal Affairs of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba, has explained the reason for the consistent filing of motions by the Petitioner, John Dramani Mahama, in the ongoing Election Petition at the Supreme Court.

Many have raised questions over what they described as the petitioner’s constant filing of motions seeking the court’s review of rulings given against him.

Media reports indicate a section of the public is calling on Mr. Mahama to discontinue the hearing citing how the Justices at the Supreme Court are throwing out motions filed by his Counsels for reviews.

But speaking in an interview on A1 Radio, Mr. Amaliba expressed disappointment at the development; indicating the readiness of the petitioner’s legal team to explore all avenues to pursue its case.

“What we’re doing is to explore all the avenues and then get to a point where there is no avenue again to explore- then we’ll take the next step. If you don’t explore all the avenues, in future, you cannot complain of anything. Then they would have said that why didn’t you do this or that?”

He continued that “This is also going to be like precedent- lying down that we have explored all the avenues. It becomes precedence; but if we don’t, somebody else will come and explore them and use it to his advantage and say we didn’t go this far- that’s why you didn’t get the results we wanted. So we want to cover every ground as the law allows. And so you haven’t seen the end of these applications; and we’re not worried about the outcomes.”
