2 die, many in critical condition after another Garu bus accident

Two persons were killed with many others injured in an accident that occurred at mile 40 near Sarikyikura in the Central Gonja District of the Savanna Region on Wesnesday, February 18, 2021.

The bus with registration number GR 7287-21, was said to be traveling from Garu in the Upper East Region to Kumasi.

Confirming the accident, the Savannah Regional Fire Service Commander, ACFO Kwasi Baffour-Awuah, is reported to have said that the bus which was carrying 48 passengers burst a front tyre and fell on its side.

According to him, one passenger died at the spot and another while on admission at the Holistic Medicare at Buipe.

The injured are on admission at the Holistic Medicare in Buipe for treatment; but some are reported to have amputated legs and arms due to the accident.

Eye witness said personnel from the Buipe District Fire Service who were at the accident scene could not rescue some of the victims with the needed urgency due to the lack of rescue equipments.

This is the second accident that has occurred on the same stretch (Buipe-Tamale highway) in three weeks involving buses from Garu.

In the first accident which occurred on February 3, 2021, over 20 persons died with more than 40 injured in a head-on collision when a bus carrying passengers from Kumasi to Garu crashed into a another bus from Zebila to Kumasi.
