Link Community Development has graduated 2,182 out-of-school girls who have undergone a learning program under the Strategic Approach to Girls’ Education (STAGE), implemented in 2018 in the Upper East Region.

The project which seeks to support less endowed girls to have well-defined education has trained and graduated these girls and awarded them certificates.

The girls (ages 10 and 15) were once school dropouts and now have certificates and ready to be rolled back to the mainstream schools.

Speaking to A1 Radio, the beneficiary girls expressed their excitement and willingness to go back to school.

Adongo Holiness, a beneficiary said: “ I never knew that going to school was such a beautiful venture. But now I understand the need to be in school. I must say I can’t wait to enroll back in school. I’m also happy for the certificate, books, and bag I have been given.”

Azure Rosefina another beneficiary also said: “My main reason I stopped going to school was that there was no one to assist me. I was not having a school uniform or bag nor books to go to school, but with this initiative, I’m to go back to school. And I stand here to give thanks to the organizers and almighty God for helping me this way.”

The Project Coordinator of Link Community Development, Faara Jochim however explained that the project took place in four selected districts namely Nabdam, Bawku West, Kassena-Nankana West, and Bongo districts.

He said: “In each of these districts hundreds of girls benefited from this project. In Nabdam, 222 girls benefited, Bawku West, 478 girls benefited, Kassena-Nankana West, 867 girls benefited, and in the Bongo District, 615 girls benefited. And all of them were taken through Accelerated Learning Program classes.”

Mr. Faara noted that the project should have been completed long ago but the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic caused the delay.

He, therefore, called on the beneficiaries to see education as their future and a tool that will bring impact to their families and communities.

The STAGE project is a consortium led by World Education with local NGO partners including Link Community Development to improve learning outcomes in numeracy, literacy, and life skills of out-of-school girls between the ages of 10 and 19.
