Two motorbike riders have died on the spot in front of the Bolgatanga Municipal Education office on the Bolgatanga-Navrongo road when they crushed into an urvan bus.
This occurred on Friday February 19, 2021 at about 5:30pm.
In his narration to A1 News, the driver of the urvan bus who escaped with minor bruises, said he was conveying drinks to Fumbisi in the Builsa South District but upon reaching the area, the motorbike riders who were also coming from the opposite direction, attempted to overtake a tricycle otherwise called ‘Mahama Can Do’, but hit the rear of the tricycle and lost control.
He said the motorbike veered into his lane after hitting the tricycle in the process, the pillion rider fell of and the bus ran over him killing him instantly. The rider with the motorbike, also went under the bus, causing the bus and the motorbike to catch fire resulting in the burning of the rider beyond recognition.
The narration by the driver was corroborated by eyewitnesses.
Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service were called in to put out the fire.
Meanwhile, eyewitnesses who resorted to taking pictures and videos of the accident with their cell phones incurred the wrath the military officers who also rushed to the scene to support their sister security agency put out the fire. The military officers smashed such cell phones as well as motorbikes that were packed near the accident scene.
