Former president of FC Barcelona arrested

Former president of FC Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu has been arrested. Spanish outlet revealed that the former Barca president was arrested alongside three of his board members.

Mr. Bartomeu who is a Spanish entrepreneur, and a former president of FC Barcelona, resigned from his position in October 2020. He guided the Blaugrana club for six years and was reportedly arrested at his home on the morning of Monday, March 2, 2021.

Catalan source ‘Mundo Deportivo’ revealed Mr. Bartomeu was arrested with his ex-employees of his former team, CEO Oscar Grau, head of legal Roman Gomez Ponti and Jaume Masferrer – said to be Bartomeu’s former right-hand man – all reportedly arrested.

Bartomeu and his fellow were said to be the leaders of ‘Barca Gate’ a site that was created to smear ill words and tarnish the images and reputations of players, coaches, and clubs.

The site earlier last year was revealed to be targeting Lionel Messi, Gerrard Pique, ex Barca coach, and current Manchester head coach Pep Guardiola and clubs like Real Madrid and others.

Although they denied the news and rebuked it to be a false claim, the Catalan Police have arrested them. The source said, they will be appearing in Court for judgments in the next 24 hours.
