Former Member of Parliament for the Tamale Central Constituency, Inusah Fuseini says the just-ended Supreme Court ruling on the 2020 Petition raises a lot of questions.
According to him, the Supreme Court failed to understand the petitioner, John Dramani Mahama’s quest and went ahead to conduct a ruling without hearing the numerous appeals he made.
Speaking on the Daybreak Upper East programme on A1 Radio, the former legislator noted that, one main reason the Supreme Court failed to understand was that the petitioner did not go to court to challenge the conduct of the elections but the figures as declared by the Electoral Commission.
He said: “What was happening in the Supreme Court, the unanimous decisions that were being given in rejection to applications being made by the petitioner, the judgment itself and I listened to the judgment from the beginning to end and it raises several issues. The petitioner did not go to court to challenge the elections, John Dramani Mahama went to court to challenge the declaration of the results the president has been elected.”
He added that the data that was contained in the declaration was wrong. “…everyone knows that the data that was used in declaring the election results was wrong but the Supreme Court said that even though the data was wrong; a change in the data did not affect the outcome of the election. Now the question that I thought the Supreme Court should have addressed is when the data in the election petition does not support the declaration what are the mechanisms to do the corrections. Is it a unilateral correction?”
