The former Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini has described President Akufo-Addo’s four years government as between the devil and the deep blue sea.

According to him, the president over his four years has borrowed more than any other government in the history of the country hence runs the country in judgment debt.

Speaking on Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio, the former legislator noted that the borrowing in the country was too much under the current administration.

He said, “The total debt of the country is 286.9 billion and this contributed to the continuous borrowing of this government. And data has it that under the four of Nana Akufo-Addo’s government, he has borrowed more than 160 billion Ghana Cedis.

Yes, and that is more than all the monies that we borrowed which remained unpaid from independence 7th of March 1957 to the 6th day of January 2017 which stood at the time that the NDC government left office with 152 billion Ghana Cedis. This means that he has borrowed more than any government in the history of Ghana.”

Touching on the growth of the country’s economy, Alhaji Fuseini explained that, “The debt to GDP as I’m speaking to you has hit 74.4% and what that means is that we are using our Gross Domestic Product to satisfy debts. So, what is left for development is 25.6%.”

This he however of the view that the 2021 budget hearing will rather expose the underlying weaknesses in the economy.
