An Outspoken Leading Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Stephen Atubiga has said that, the party’s decision to select Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as a running mate by the former president and the presidential candidate for National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Drama Mahama ahead of the 2020 General elections led to the defeat of the party.

A choice he claims the late former President and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings never supported.
“….our founder and late former president J.J Rawlings unambiguously told us that the choice of John Dramani Mahama’s running mate [Pro. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman] wasn’t his choice”. he said

According to him, the loyal and dedicated persons especially those who had presidential ambitions felt betrayed by the choice of running mate, hence an ‘activation of internal hatred’ for John Dramani Mahama going into 2020 elections.

He said, ….”the loyal, dedicated and hardworking grassroots persons of the party especially those with presidential ambitions felt betrayed by the decision of JDM. Most of them were very passive in their posturing”.

In a Facebook post sighted by A1radioonline.com, Stephen Atubiga stated emphatically that, “….I believe no NDC presidential candidate can win any election in this country if the internal power blocks are fully not in support with the person [running mate]”.

He however advised the party’s next presidential candidate to choose the right running mate to guarantee victory for the party in 2024 general elections.
