Upper East: LG Electronics awards GHc150,000.00 for three community projects

LG Electronics Ghana has handed over a total of GHc150,000.00 to three communities from the Upper East Region who presented proposals for support to solve community problems.

The beneficiary communities namely, Boko Community in the Bongo, Damweo Community in the Bolgatanga Municipality, and Karimenga in the Talensi District emerged winners of the LG Community Challenge.

A total of 150 communities from the Upper East Region submitted proposals for community projects and the three communities and their business ventures were selected out of a final list of 10 communities.

A representative of LG Electronic Ghana, John Moore Amoako who represented the Ghana/Ivory Coast branch at the awards ceremony said, LG Electronics is committed to giving back to customers and the communities they live in.

According to Mr. Amoako the communities presented very good proposals covering very key social issues and the very best and sustainable proposals were selected for the award.

Boko Community presented a proposal to establish a bakery to bake bread and other pastries and for this project, the community leaders received an amount of GHc50,000.00.

The Damweo Community presented a proposal to establish a textile weaving centre to train out-of-school girls and young single mothers in the community. Community leaders received an amount of GHc50,000.00.

The Karimenga community also had an amount of GHc50,000.00 to invest in an all-year-round farming project in the area. The community presented a proposal for the LG Challenge for support to be able to procure some food process.

The LG Challenge is an initiative of the Korea Friends and Hope International (KFHI) and Community Chest of Korea and is sponsored by LG Electronic-Ghana.

The LG Challenge is all about people sharing their ideas on how to solve their community problems.

After the presentation of cash awards, the Korea Friends and Hope International (KFHI) and Joyful Africa Mission will continue to monitor the three community projects for two years.

Beneficiary communities are happy with the financial support for their projects and have all promised to make very good use of the financial award.
