Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has asked indigenes in the region to do away with egos and political affiliations and rather concentrate on how they can collectively develop the region.

According to him, egos and divisions amongst people are the main components that drive poverty and unproductive growth in every community hence people should put a stop to such attitudes.

Mr. Yakubu who made this known at the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly’s first ordinary meeting noted that the region for far too long has not received the needed growth it deserves because of the egoistic attitude of some indigenes.

He said, “Yes, how can we grow when people are still having egoistic attitudes and pride. We should always keep it in our minds that no one is coming to develop our region for us, it is ourselves. The ‘when’ to change our narrative of improving the quality of life for our people is now. I’m very sure deep within our hearts, we all aspire to change the lives that we desire, and with collective efforts, we can do it.”

He added that “Despite the challenges in the world, it is our responsibility to change our narratives and begin thinking together as brothers and sisters through enhancement methods. Methods that will gain productivity and growth that can eliminate poverty.”

Meanwhile, many indigenes were still skeptical of the kind of mechanisms that could be best used to improve the livelihoods of the people especially to end rural-urban migration.
