Residents in the Sirigu Community, in the Kassena-Nankana West District in the Upper East Region, are calling on relevant authorities to come to their aid in addressing the poor road networks in the area as their lives are in danger.

According to residents some dilapidated culverts on major roads in the Sirigu Community, are hindering their safe travel to other neighbouring communities and the trading centers.

Narrating to A1 Radio, the President of the Sirigu Youth Association, Matthew Abagna, noted that the situation has caused many people in the community to suffer dearly when using either of the roads to the business center.

“For appeals to various stakeholders, we have done that now I will say we are tired of writing and talking to them. Our District Chief Executive, we have made several calls to him and he normally promised but failed us. Even the Vice President when he last visited our chief Palace be promised that the following week contractor will come to the site as I speak to you; zero. So actually the culverts are threatening our lives especially if you are using either of the roads in the evening time.” Mr. Abagna lamented.

He stressed that series of road accidents have occurred due to these dilapidated culverts.

Mr. Abagna added: “All that we are saying is authorities should come to our aid. But as an association in Sirigu we are doing our bit in terms of mobilizing resources but to what extent can we do it. So when the government set in and then we will also use the little that we have contributed to support in.”

Meanwhile, a visit to the community by A1 Radio’s Reporter revealed that the dilapidated culverts are death traps, threatening the lives of residents who commute from the Zorkor community to Sirigu market and from Sirigu to Kandiga.
