General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Aseidu Nketiah has suggested to government to rather introduce a “Red-Track” system in its flagship program the free Senior High School to curtail the current infrastructure challenges that have been occasioned by the implementation of the program in the country.

The general secretary thinks that the green and yellow track systems introduced by the government have failed to address the challenges hence another “Red-Track” system may help the government in its efforts to end the chaos in various schools.

Mr Aseidu Nketiah who expressed, his disappointment in the manner in which government is handling the educational system noted that such an unfortunate incident could have been addressed by the NDC’s E-book project.

He said “The New Patriotic Party in a rush to fulfill one of the promises in their manifesto introduced the mass Free Senior High School without considering the infrastructure challenges. The government should agree to my advice and introduce a red track system to help end this problem where our school children do not know what to do.

Mr. Aseidu Nketiah who spoke on JoyNews monitored by A1 Radio explained that the erstwhile NDC government knew of the future challenges of the educational system that is why they introduced a Progressively Free Secondary Education programme.

He noted “It was in this direction that the NDC government under His Excellency John Dramani Mahama in 2015/16 introduced the Progressively Free Secondary Education programme. This approach was to ensure that government takes steps to expand infrastructure and provide the necessary amenities with time, to forestall the challenges the implementation of the programme would have brought.”

The general secretary however called on teachers and heads of schools to always speak against the odds happening in their various schools to put the government on track.
