The Northern Regional capital Tamale has recorded low turnout for the covid-19 vaccination at some centres in the metropolis.

The vaccination exercise which started on 26th March, 2021 intended to vaccinate about 4,175 health workers in the entire northern region, but could not meet the set target. Instead, about 3,745 health workers were able to receive the jab representing 39.5 percent.

The reasons for the low turnout could be attributed to the myths and misconceptions surrounding the Covid-19 vaccine.

Some residents also say they will wait to see the side effects of the covid-19 vaccine from others before they receive theirs.

A resident of Tamale, Alhaji Abass Yakubu who spoke to A1 News after taking the jab said he had no side effect adding, the process was smooth and less cumbersome.

In an interview with the Tamale Metropolitan Health Director Dr. Francis Sooh Ali, he expressed worry over people hesitating to take the vaccine.

He said, “We had people requesting for the vaccine and now that it has arrived they are running away from it.”

He therefore, allayed fears that the vaccine is safe and anyone with a mild adverse effect of the Covid-19 vaccine can come for a medical checkup.

Dr. Sooh Ali added that people should take the vaccine because they don’t know when the dynamics will change in Africa.

The immunization exercise is expected to end today April 12, 2021. And so far they have had about 5,000 people being vaccinated in Tamale Metro.
