A lecturer at the Department of Medical Laboratory Technology at Bolgatanga Technical University and Deputy Chief Medical Laboratory Scientist of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani has asked the general public to demand prove of the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) Certification from Medical labs before agreeing to run medical tests there.
Dr. Rahamani believes that medical test results from HeFRA accredited facilities can be trusted and relayed upon as accurate results because the assessment done before certifying a facility is very strict to ensure that facilities meet the required standard.
According to him, this assessment is not done on only the personnel, but also the machines that the facility has.
He said though the accreditation is capital intensive, it must be done because it is in the interest of the general public. He wants members of the public to ensure that they push facilities to get these certifications by patronizing only accredited facilities.
He has urged the Upper East Regional Hospital to apply for the ISO Certification since the facility has all the relevant staff and equipment to get the accreditation.
