Private legal practitioner and former Member of Parliament for Zebilla constituency of the Upper East Region John Akparibo Ndebugre has described the creation of the Office of the Special Prosecutor as an establishment of bureaucracy and not really to fight corruption.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio the former lawmaker said, state attorney, as well as other offices within the security department, has been empowered by the constitution of Ghana to prosecute criminal cases in the country, therefore it was needless to create the office of the Special Prosecutor in the first place.

He questioned the rationale for the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and stated that the country did not need an office to prosecute corruption-related allegations because the attorney general and police officers are even mandated by the State Attorney to prosecute.

His comment came after a legal Practitioner and Chairman of the Electronic Communications Tribunal, Kissi Agyebeng was nominated to replace Martin Amidu as the next Special Prosecutor.

Lawyer Ndebugre further stated that the NPP government has lost the fight against corruption in the Country.

According to him, the government is not committed to fighting corruption, because many corruption allegations that have been leveled against government appointees have always been under investigation and will never be concluded or been clear without any wrongdoing.
