An independent political analyst, Dr. Boakye Yiadom has urged Ghanaians not to be quick in praising authorities in their recent quest in fighting illegal mining in the country.

According to him, Ghanaian politicians are usually fast to crack the wipe when they knew that they do not need votes from the people, but are relaxed when the time comes for elections.

This accession, Dr. Yiadom, therefore, encouraged Ghanaians not to be quick to applaud the ministers and their government’s fight against illegal mining, rather, wait for three years to come to assess them.

Dr. Yiadom, who spoke on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio in connection with the recent burning of 28 excavators and 267 chanfans destroyed by the ‘Operation Halt 2’ noted that though the fight seems to be real, he cannot applaud the land and natural resources minister’s efforts, but will only wait come 2024 elections.

He said “Yes, much as Ghanaians are seeing the actions done by these task forces ordered by Mr. Samuel Jinapor, the Land and Natural Resources minister, and the Defense Minister, Dominic Nitiwul we should not be quick to give them that full credit. Remember, politicians can do anything when they do not need votes. So I can only wait when we are approaching the 2024 elections there that I can say yes they meant their words in ending galamsey.”

Dr. Yiadom stressed that like any other election in the country, political parties especially the opposition parties usually use the weakness of their opponents to campaign for votes so if only the current administration can maintain the pressure during the 2024 elections and continue with the fight there that conclusions can be drawn that this administration was bent on fighting galamsey.
