For over a month, teaching and learning have been a struggle for both teachers and students in the Kusanaba Senior High School in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The sad incident occurred a month ago following a heavy windstorm that ripped off the school’s administration block, storeroom, and other classrooms.
The administration block, according to authorities, used to house the school documents and other important learning materials for students but all were destroyed by the storm.
Narrating the sad incident to A1 Radio, the headmaster of the School, Daniel Abugri noted that teaching and learning are virtually taken place under trees.
According to Mr. Abugri, together with other authorities in the school, they have written several letters to the various stakeholders, especially to the Municipal Assembly yet it no avail.
He said, “I and my bursar continue to operate under trees hoping that one day things will change. To tell you that we are comfortable with our current condition is a lie. We have made the necessary follow-ups yet nothing is forthcoming so we are hoping that philanthropists can come to our aid.”
Mr. Abugri stressed that effective teaching and learning is a problem to them as teachers and students struggle to get comfortable classrooms.
He noted that an ongoing dining hall project that started in 2016 also got ripped off by the storm.
The headmaster, teachers, and students of the school are therefore calling on authorities to come to the aid of the school.
Meanwhile, at the time of filing the report, authorities from the Bawku Municipal Assembly were not available to respond to the predicament of the school.
