Some women voted against me – Fmr Upper East Regional Minister

Former Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage has revealed that women voted against her in her bid to become a member of parliament for the Navrongo Central constituency of the Upper East Region in the 2020 general election.

Madam Tangoba said, the discrimination against women who aspire to reach great height in their career was still very high citing that some of the women in her constituency would have loved to vote for her but comments such as “She wants to be like a man, a woman can not lead them, women are too knowing, among others” and in some instances the husbands told their wives not to vote for her.

The former regional minister, who was speaking on women and leadership on Day Break Upper East special edition on A1 Radio said even though Ghana has come far in women representation in leadership position, there is a lot to do in order to increase the number of women in leadership position.

She said, significant milestones have been achieved in getting women to key leadership positions because, 20 years ago, one would not have thought that a women could become a regional minister especially in the northern part of Ghana but she was given the opportunity by President Akuffo Addo to become the first woman to become Upper East Regional Minister.

Madam Tangoba encourage young ladies to pursue their careers and not let criticism of people discourage them.

  1. Madam pls move on and stop the blame game. Reorganize yourself and come back strong. People have choices and they made that clear on Dec 7. Accept u lost and prepare for the next election. It’s not everything u say openly.
