Acting Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region, Josephat Amiyuure Atura has warned social media users to be circumspect on their handles and not misinform the public on the upcoming 2021 population and housing census.

According to him, in the wake of social media, users sometimes have little information about the subject and will still go ahead to misinform the public knowingly or unknowingly.

Speaking at the launch of the 30th Days countdown to the 2021 population and housing census in Bolgatanga, Mr. Atura noted that as important as the exercise would be, people should do their best to rely on adequate information from credible sources to contribute their quota to national development.

This, he called on residents and nonresidents to give their full support to census enumerators when the time comes to carry out their work as these people (census enumerators) will be going around to take their (residents) pieces of information.

He also explained that residents should see the activity as one of the ways that can help the government to allocate resources evenly to citizens hence should give accurate information on that day.

The 2021 population and housing census night which is slated for June 27th, 2021 aimed at achieving complete coverage of all structures and persons in the country.

To achieve this, the government through the census production unit has necessitated the demarcation of the country into small areas to facilitate the identification of all structures and other places people live or sleep.

Touching on the effectiveness and accuracy of the census, Miss Latifa Abdul Latif who represented the government statistician and Chief Census officer, Professor Samuel Kobina Aninim, at the Bolgatanga Municipality, noted that the 2021 PHC will be done through technological advancements to ensure the production of quality data.

She, however, added that from May 31st to June 9th, 2021 have scheduled for the training of enumerators and supervisors in all the 272 statistical offices in the country.
