Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency, Dr. Clement Apaak has asked President Akufo-Addo not to rock shoulders over his recent doctorate conferred on him by the University of Cape Coast.

According to him, though the University regardless of the rules and regulations governing it still went ahead to confer on the President the doctorate, such a doctorate can not be compared with those who spent years in the classrooms for similar ones.

Dr. Apaak who spoke on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio noted that since the wake of the idea to honor the President with such a doctorate by the University, he has never supported it because it was unethical for a state university to honor a sitting President.

“First of all, I’m one of those who did not believe that the university should have conferred such doctorate largely because I think that the implementation of the President’s Free SHS policy has been deviled with a lot of challenges. Also, it is unethical on the part of the university to confer such an honor on a sitting President. The reason is simple; President appoints members to the governing council of every University. So, traditionally and ethically such honors are always given to them after they have done serving their tuner of office. If not so, it will be obvious that the presidential appointees on the governing council may have influenced such an award. But be it as it may, it has happened, and whether I like it or not he has been awarded such a degree. But let me remind him that such a doctorate can not be compared to mine. The difference is there for people to know.”

Touching on the recent comment made by the President regarding a media house that he says sort to discredit his efforts on Free SHS policy, Dr. Apaak noted that it was unfortunate on the part of the President to make such a comment on the public.
