Police in Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East region are cautioning youth in Bolgatanga-township to desist from thwarting the efforts of the police in fighting crime in the municipality.

According to the police service, recent posture by some youth in the Bolgatanga-township when they are enforcing the law seems to suggest that they impeding the smooth operations of the security agencies.

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region ASP David Osiere-Fianko in an exclusive interview on A1 Radio said the youth should desist from standing in the way of the police in fighting crime.

He revealed that, in one of the suburbs in the region, some youth approached the police personnel on patrols in a rude manner to find out why they have not sort permission from them before embarking on patrols in their neighborhood.

ASP Fianko-Okyere said, “their mission in combating crime in the region is to either push criminals out of the region or to arrest and prosecute them as they are already doing and they can only achieve this if residents of Bolgatanga support the police in fighting crime.”

He advised, the youth in the municipality, to emulate youth in other jurisdictions where they form neigbourhood watchdog committees as this will help the service to deal with crime more easily.
