People’s National Convention (PNC) has called on President Nana Akuffo Addo to appoint 50% or more women to fill the position of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) across the country.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with A1 News, the General Secretary of the PNC, Mrs. Janet Asana Nabla said, women play a very vital role when it comes to nation-building, which makes it necessary for every government to appoint more women to key positions in government.

She stated that, many sensitive positions in Ghana are already occupied by men who are hindering the country’s rapid development.

“If the President of Ghana really wants Ghana to be developed, if he really wants Ghana to move forward then he has to concentrate on the women in this country. The MMDCEs he should give 50% representation to women and 50% representation to men or better still he can do more than that, he can give women 60% and give 40% to the men because when it comes to parliament the men have taken everything, ministerial positions they have taken everything, cabinet they have taken everything. All the sectors the Men have occupied everywhere what about the women? It is high time government gives women more representation on this MMDCEs positions.”

She further noted that statistics from the Electoral Commission of Ghana reveals women constitute the majority voting population in Ghana, therefore women should be taken seriously in the governance of the country.
