Communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, Abdallah Salifu Jonathan has explained that, the attorney general did not do due diligence before terminating the power contract the previous government entered which has caused Ghana a judgment debt of over $170million.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, Mr. Abdallah stated that, there is no need to chase after previous ministers to investigate them when the AG could have consulted all the people in the contract agreement before taking a step to terminate the contract.

The NDC communicator stressed that, if there is blame, then the Attorney General should be blamed for the negligence that led to $170 million judgment debt.

But Deputy Regional Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Johnson Ayine explained, the NDC should not always involve petty politics into serious matters of governance.

Stressing on the fact that, the NDC should have looked into the deal before passing it to parliament knowing there were clauses in the contract that stated that government would have to still paid $24.9million every year whether it used the power or not.

According to him, the NPP government acted on the Ahenkorah’s commission that recommended the deal be terminated.
