Ghana Statistical Service has said it has rendered support to families of 2021 census enumerators who had an accident on their way to work, leading to one losing his life in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.
The incident happened on June 30th 2021, on the Bawku – Zebilla road.
But speaking in an exclusive interview on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, Head of Census Publicity, Education and Advocacy at the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Francis Nyarkoh Larbi noted that upon hearing the incident on social media as well as calls from the regional level, the service board instructed them to pay a visit and commiserate with the bereaved family in Bawku.
Mr Nyarkoh stressed that the service though does not have insurance packages for enumerators and field officers, the sad incident has compelled them to support the bereaved families.
He said, “… Sad incidents like these need everyone’s support, the reason we are here. We are humans and issues of this nature we need to support the families with our little ways and to show concerns.”
He also hinted that they have also visited some census officials who were involved in accidents in their line of duty in the region as well.
He, however, called on enumerators to always be vigilant on the road in their line of duties as their lives are paramount to the growth of the country.
