The Muslim community in the Upper East Region says it has received little meaningful support despite the presence of several Members of Parliament in the region.
The Secretary to the Upper East Regional Chief Imam, Mohammed Arimiyawu, expressed disappointment over what he described as the lack of assistance from elected officials.
However, a ray of hope emerged on Friday when Friends of Prosper donated a 50-kilowatt generator plant to the Muslim community in the region. The donation is expected to improve access to reliable power and support religious, social, and educational activities.
Mr. Arimiyawu welcomed the gesture, saying it highlights the type of leadership and commitment the community expects from public officials and political leaders.
“We want to express our sincere gratitude to Friends of Prosper and to Mr. Prosper Ayimbila for this significant contribution,” he said. “These are the kind of politicians we are looking for. Those who widen their scope and truly understand the basic needs of the people they aspire to lead.”
He stressed that effective leadership goes beyond promises and requires identifying and responding to the basic needs of communities.
“When you do this, you touch their hearts, and the support you seek from them will naturally follow,” he added.
Mr. Arimiyawu further noted that several parliamentarians in the region had been approached to support the completion of the regional mosque, but none had shown the same level of commitment as the donor.
The donation of the generator plant is expected to significantly improve access to electricity for communal activities. Community leaders say it sets a benchmark for political engagement and support for grassroots needs in the region.
The community has expressed hope that more leaders will emulate the example of Mr. Prosper Ayimbila and Friends of Prosper by prioritising the practical needs of the people they serve.
