UE/R: Police arrests stolen motorbikes dealer, two accomplices

Ghana Police Service in the Upper East Region has arrested three persons believe to be involved in receiving stolen motorbikes usually at gun point in the region.

According to the press statement released by the Ghana Police Service on Tuesday July 6, 2021, the suspects Mumuni Bawa aged 33 an alleged kingpin and a major dishonestly receiver of stolen motorbikes in the region and two of his accomplices, Atampugri Akolgo 44, Solomon Atia 28 were arrested by the police at different locations in the Upper East Region.

According to the statement, the three suspects were arranged before the Bolgatanga District Magistrate Court on Tuesday July 6, 2021 and have been remanded into police custody to reappear on Monday, July 26, 2021.

The statement revealed that a search conducted at Mumuni Bawa’s place discovered a suspected fake Ten Thousand (USD 10, 000.00) US dollars in hundred bill denomination and 8 motorbikes number plates believed to have been detached from stolen motorbikes.

The statement further indicated that he has already offered the said motorbikes which had their number plates detached for sale at Dapango, a town in neighboring Togo.

The Ghana Police Service in the region is therefore assuring residents of the Upper East Region that it will continue to fight armed robbery and other violent crime through tackling every dimension that serves as motivation to criminal activities.

It called for the cooperation of the general public in fighting crime in the region.
