Regional Coordinator of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) in the Upper East Region Khan Jambeidu has stated that new constituencies are most likely to be created after the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

Khan Jambeidu said the 2021PHC is an important exercise so those who are casting doubts about its importance should know that such national exercise drives the development of the nation because the data gathered is relied upon when planning.

He said the Electoral Commission of Ghana is by law mandated to create new constituencies 12 months after a national census so very soon new constituencies are likely to be created or craved out of existing ones.

Mr Jambeidu was speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said though the 2021PHC exercise has been delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2020 general elections in the country, the GSS got the needed resources from government to undertake the exercise in 2021.

He said comments made by some individuals that suggest that some of the questions in the 2O21PHC such as ownership of phones and other electronic gadgets are unfortunate because every country is embracing digital technology for accelerated development so these questions seek to know what level that citizens have access to digital technology and usage.

He appealed to the general public especially those who are apprehensive about the exercise to avail themselves and be counted as the numbers are very important for the planning and development of the nation.
